MSC Saved by the Bell Grab Bag: The Max Swatches

Yes, you read that right.  SAVED BY THE BELL GRAB BAGS!  Mo from Madd Style Cosmetics is always coming up with amazing grab bags with playful ideas.  Since I grew up on SBTB, I had to get them.  There were two bags, one called “The Max” inspired by the favorite STBT cafe hangout and another called “Miss Bliss Years” inspired by the character Miss Bliss.  There were certainly a lot of things that went on at The Max and the names of these shadows bring back some memories.  “The Max” is full of awesome bright 80’s inspired colors and the “Miss Bliss Years” is packed full of versatile neutrals.  The swatches I’ve done include three versions of the shadows: over bare skin, applied wet, and applied over Pixie Epoxy.  I think this really helps capture how different the shadows can be worn.  All pictures were taken outside in natural sunlight.

The Max

First up, “The Max” collection!

I’m So Excited– a shimmer magenta

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

The first picture shows a clear shot with of the shadows without the light really catching the sparkle.  This is a very vibrant pink with pretty sparkles but as you can see in the bottom swatch, it can be worn less intensely.  The second picture is out of focus to help capture some of the sparkling shimmers.  The Pixie Epoxy swatch on top gives this shadow the darkest, boldest pink look, so if that is what you’re after I’d recommend a sticky base of some type.

If you’re trying to remember where the name fits with the series, this was the name of one of the songs the girls sang in their girl-group in the episode where Jessie is dealing with taking pills to have energy to keep up with school work and all her other hobbies and obligations.  it was kind of a big deal back in the day since people didn’t really talk about addiction as much back then.

Screech- a golden green tone

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Screech is a nice light green color.  I’m partial to greens anyway, so I definitely love this one.  Just like with I’m So Excited, the shadow is more sheer when applied by itself.  The middle swatch (applied wet) is about half the size of the others because I didn’t leave myself enough room between the other two!  You can still see how it takes on more of the ‘golden’ tone that is mentioned in the description though.    The swatches on the left show the sparkles in this shadow a little better than the one on the right, but this one photographed more shimmery than anything else.

It’s so pretty!

Screech, of course, is named after the super geek and Zack’s best friend on the show.  He’s best known for his squeaky voice and ability to get them into and out of trouble with his bumbling ways.  Screech was so in love with Lisa throughout the whole series and was always doing silly things to try and get her to love him.

Time Out! Time In!- a blue toned purple with hints of pink and blue shimmer

This is probably my favorite of the collection.  I love how this looks in all forms of application.  The sparkles are gorgeous.  The second picture really shows them off.  But even the left picture shows how pretty this color is.

Time Out! Time In! is inspired from Zack’s ability as a kind of “narrator” at times to pause the show and talk directly to the camera.  He would pause mid-action and disentangle himself from the scene (if necessary) and talk about what was happening before getting back place an saying “time in” for the show to continue.  While this was happening the other actors in the scene would just stand still and hold position until it was time to go again.  It almost always led to something funny happening.

Hot Sundae- a vibrant coral

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Hot Sundae is probably my second favorite shadow of the collection. I have other coral shadows but this one is so pretty and sparkly. It isn’t super bright, slightly more pink than I’d expect with the rest of the colors in the group but I love it.  I actually really like how the color looks so different depending on how you apply this one.  This is a very versatile and wearable color.

Hot Sundae was the name of the girl group that Jessie, Kelly, and Lisa formed.  It’s also the one that Jessie is in when she gets hooked on caffeine pills.  I remember thinking that their video was so cool when I was a kid…it’s pretty funny to look back at now.

The Zack Attack-  a blue tone with silver shimmer

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

Top to bottom: Over Pixie Epoxy, applied wet, applied dry over bare skin

This color is very 80’s blue and perfect for this collection.  The silver shimmer is very pretty and delicate.  I actually like the combo of The Zack Attack and Hot Sundae together.  I think a lot of these colors could be worn together if done right.

The Zack Attack was a band that all the friends were in.  Not only was there an all girl singing group, there was a band too! I know, only on SBTB.  They were one talented group of kids, ha ha.  The most memorable episode involving The Zack Attack (they popped up now and again) was the “Rockumentary” episode where they basically fast-forward to the future and pretend that the bad has been a success and show you how they fell apart.  Their big song “Friends Forever” is the kind of the point and lesson of the show.  It seems like SBTB pretty much always had a lesson for us kids.

Alright, that is all of the shadows in The Max collection.  It also came with a cherry cola lip balm which smells and tastes amazing.  No swatch of that because it is colorless.  Stay tuned for the swatches of the Miss Bliss Years bag!

Twisted Little Mermaid Grab Bag containts 5 shadows, a Coconut Rum lip balm, & a coupon for my next order!!

Madd Style Cosmetics has the best grab bags ever! The latest bag arrived in my mail yesterday and I was blown away by the shadows. Seriously beautiful. These grab bag beauties were $20 and contained 5 limited edition eye shadows, a limited edition lip balm in Coconut Rum, and a coupon for 20% off a future order. The grab bags are always limited in quantities and this one sold out faaast.  I swatched each shade 3 times so you can see how the colors look different depending on your method of application.  Each picture will be in the same order which is left to right: over bare skin, over Pixie Epoxy, and foiled with water.  These pictures were taken outdoors in afternoon sunlight (thank goodness we finally had a break in all the storms we’ve been having!).

This color is sooo pretty and sparkly. It is a very nice minty-sea water color that I am dying to play with. The pictures of this, and really all of the collection do not do it justice.

There’s something so beautiful and almost haunting about this color. Which is just the way sunshine drifting through dark water makes me feel too! I don’t know how Mo managed to capture a feeling in an eyeshadow but its gorgeous.

Sea Witch is an amazing really light and really evil purple! I find it to be lighter/more sheer than Gloomcookie, especially when applied without primer or foiling. It really pops when used with a sticky base to help capture the glitter and the shift in this is amazing.

This last shadow was one of the free samples that came with my order. That’s right, I paid $20 plus shipping, got 5 shadows, a lip balm, a 20% off coupon AND I STILL GOT TWO FREE SAMPLES. MSC is awesome. I’m only swatching one of the samples because the other one was Book of Spoilers which I swatched recently in a different post. My other free sample shadow is Penny Lane, which I don’t see up on the site yet. I’d describe it as a coppery orange/red with some gold glitter. It’s really pretty. I might need it.

Oh, I almost forgot the lip balm! The lip balm smells amazing and glides on smoothly, like every other balm I’ve gotten from MSC. It leaves my lips so smooth and people in the fan group are already begging for it to become permanent. Coconut Rum is just the summer scent to go with this twisted bag of beauty!!

Black Rose Mineral Blush Swatches

I’ve posted swatches of the awesome shadows from Black Rose Minerals and now I’ve got swatches of the five blushes they carry!  If there’s one thing I love more than finding an awesome shadow its finding a new blush.  I’m always surprised by how wearable different shades are and true to that, I found the brightest and darkest blushes in this collection to be my favorites.  I swatched all of these blushes over bare skin.

Description from Black Rose Minerals: Lust: A lusty copper with golden shimmer. Perfect for a bit on a sun kissed glow during the winter months or anytime of the year. Sheer, but can be built up. This one can also be used as an eye shadow as well.
This seems like a nice blush for a neutral look or even as a highlighter if you want to add a little nice shimmer to your look.

I love this color.  It’s such a nice peachy pink with a good amount of shimmer, but not too much.  It gives you that healthy glow and would work with any look.

Description from Black Rose Minerals: Radical-Our first ever blush inspired by the awesomeness of Adventure Time! This one will hit your mug with a smacking sweet coral pink. It shines with a real algebraic touch of golden shine. Its definitely a shimmery one and can be sheer or built up for a dramatic hue!

Radical is just slightly more pink and sparkly than Junkie. This is another beautiful and versatile blush.

Description from Black Rose Minerals: AddictionA sultry hot, magenta pink. A very slight shimmer gives this hot hue a lovely balance. We recommend using a duo fiber brush or just a light hand with a blush brush.
Description from Black Rose Minerals: BloodyThis is the perfect shade forimage_12 a deeply flushed look. This deed ruddy red shimmers with gold highlights. A highly pigmented hue. A little bit goes a long way to a fantastic look! We recommend using a duo fiber brush or just a light hand with a blush brush.

These two blushes are my favorites of the collection. I have natural pinkness to my skin so darker blushes work better for my coloring. What’s great about both these shades is that they can be built up or worn lightly, depending on your preference.

Every single one of these blushes is super wearable and pretty in its own way. I love the variety of looks I can get out of the collection and so far I haven’t gotten anywhere near running out of product in my sample bag. I need to order full sizes of these soon! I purchased sample sizes of each of these blushes for $1 each, which is a great price to allow you to try all the different colors. If you’re looking for a new blush or even if you aren’t you should give these a try!

UltraPlush Liquid Lipsticks L to R: Preppy, Hot to Trot, Sordid, Mirage, Protest, Panacea, Trophy Wife, and Swagger.

Brazen Cosmetics has some new amazing lip products coming out  (release started on Monday) and I was given the opportunity as a Brazen Beauty to get a sneak peak of them. The new product is called UltraPlush Liquid Lipstick and comes in over 15 shades. These new lippies will come in an 10ml click-pen with a brush tip so they are easy to take with you and apply anywhere. These will be selling for $14 each and you’re gonna love them!

What makes these different from other lip products? Aside from being from Brazen (which almost guarantees awesome) they are packed with super softening, all natural and/or organic ingredients as well as vitamins and antioxidants. The shades are opaque as opposed to sheer, come in a wide variety of colors and last. What they don’t have is gluten, parabens, chemicals, and phthalates. These are gentle enough for sensitive and allergenic skin and of course never tested on animals!

Here are the ingredients (from Brazen): Castor Seed Oil provides softness with a satin finish. Beeswax holds color on your lips, for a long-wearing formula. Organic Jojoba & Meadowfoam oils drench your lips in softness, actually improving skin texture and condition. We also add green tea extract, vitamin E (gluten-free) & vitamin C for antioxidant & anti-aging properties.

These really do go on super smooth and last a while. My lips are left soft and smooth, which is always great. I honestly have a hard time choosing a favorite. I even like the pinks and those aren’t really my go-to lip color.  I think if I had to pick a top 3 I would choose Protest, Trophy Wife, and Mirage.  My samples came in little pots so I’m really excited to get them in the click-pens so that they’re easier to apply on the go.

Which color is your favorite?  Find them all here!  Be sure to mention that I sent you over too!  And, this just in!! Save 25% off with code “BrazenBriLips” when you buy these awesome lippies!

Sweet Libertine Cosmetics Swatches

I’ve got more swatches for you today!  These swatches are from Sweet Libertine, a mineral cosmetics company.  I guess I could technically say that they were my first indie shadow purchase.  I got two shadow sets that were based on songs from Amanda Palmer’s album released in 2008 (Who Killed Amanda Palmer?) and I remember liking them but I wasn’t really into make up variety at the time.  I basically  wore 3-5 core colors and that was it for a while.  Obviously not the case anymore!  Sweet Libertine recently released a Firefly inspired collection and since I had literally just finished watching the show I decided it was time to try them again now that I had more experience in the indie world.

I ordered a grab bag and a set of random samples.  This company does sell samples but you are not able to pick your colors.  The sample set includes 10 random samples for $8 and you can choose whether you want them to be vegan or not.  The full size shadows are $7 each indiviudally.  The grab bag that I got was a limited edition offer that came with 3 full size shadows, possibly old limited editions or eye shadow of the month colors for $14 but was on sale for $9.  I also joined the Sweet Libertine Swatching Project which granted me a free extra full size shadow with my grab bag but I only received 3 full size shadows.  I did receive lots of extra samples though as well as 2 blush samples so I feel like it evened out and am happy with what I ended up with.  The turn-around-time for this company is 2-3 weeks and my order was a little over that.  I placed the order March 3rd and it shipped April 3rd.  To be fair, there was a big clearing out sale going on at the time I placed my order as well as the new collection release, so there was probably a larger than normal order load.

Okay, time for some swatches.  Total I have 19 different items to swatch (including the 2 blush samples) so I’m splitting it in half.  I tried a different swatching technique for these shadows so you’ll have to let me know which you prefer.  As always, descriptions are from the maker’s site:

I love Gimme Shelter and it was the one shadow I really wanted to get in my package because my sister is a huge Rolling Stones fan and the color looked perfect for her. I happened to be lucky enough to get two of this sample so now I can send one to my sister and see if she loves it too. It is out of stock right now but hopefully it will be back soon so I can snag some full sizes.

Nip in the Air was a real surprise for me.  I don’t really go for pinks very much but this one is pink AND GREEN.  I love how it shifts and how even over bare skin you can see how pretty it is.

A lot of these shadows are sold out right now but you can at least see the beauty and quality of the shadows that Sweet Libertine makes.  I’ve got 10 more things to swatch for you and I’m excited to see how they all look out of their sample baggies.  The quality and consistency of the shadows is wonderful and I will for sure be placing an order for full size shadows soon.  If you’re a Firefly fan, get the shadows you want from that collection and the companion Serenity collection before it disappears!

Which shadow do you like the best?

Black Rose Minerals Mixtape Collection Swatches

L to R: Wish You Were Here, Somebody to Love, Crazy on You, Tainted Love, Love Will Tear Us Apart, and Total Eclipse of the Heart

I’ve been really excited to get this collection and swatch it up. Black Rose Minerals released this newest collection, Mixtape, a little over a month ago and knowing that her shadows are amazing I had to have it. I sprung for full sizes of 3 of the shadows and samples of the rest. It was really hard to narrow it down to just the 3 full sizes because so many of the shadows looked amazing and they are!!  I swatched these over Pixie Epoxy which really helps capture the shimmer and pigmentation for pictures.  All of the shadows in this collection are full of glitter except for one which is more shimmery.

Okay, descriptions (from Black Rose Minerals) w/ links in the titles:

Wish You Were Here– A sheer white base loaded with multi-colored sparkles.

Tainted Love– A red with pinky undertones with aqua and green sparkles.

Love Will Tear Us Apart– A dark maroon/burgundy with purple undertones with a red silver sheen.

Total Eclipse of the Heart– A black base with a pinky orange sheen.

These shadows are seriously pigmented and go on so smoothly. The sparkle factor is amazing with the only shadow not sprinkled with sparkle being ‘Dreaming’. Oh, and the packaging for the full size shadows is freakin adorable.

My favorites are Wish You Were Here, Superstar, Love Will Tear Us Apart, Follow You Into the Dark, Tower of Strength and Total Eclipse of the Heart.  Predictably, I love the white, the dark colors and a purple, lol.  Wish You Were Here is soooo sparkly.  I fell in love with it immediately once I opened the sample baggie…and then got super sad when I proceeded to dump half the little baggie onto my legs.  Tower of Strength is very striking.  I’m not sure I have another color like it.  I really love every color in the collection though.  I anticipated that Lovecats would be my least favorite and I was right about that.  The reason I knew I wouldn’t totally love it was because I don’t really care for that color of yellow on my eyes.  But who knows, maybe it will grow on me.

As far as ordering goes, turn around time is a little long right now (14-28 days) but Rosa does keep up with it and updates if there are any delays.  If you need to contact her for any reason she is always very quick to respond.  Packages are safely packed and she adds some nice touches like a card or note that is always hand written.  My order contained a 25 piece sample pack which includes some blushes so keep an eye out for those swatches soon!
